Usability Testing

Usability Testing

city-of-calgary.png

Everyone contributed to the writing and presentation of the report. My specific contribution to  the assignment was collecting, analyzing and visualizing the results (creating graphs)  of the participants.

The City of Calgary were in the process of launching a new version of the open data portal. The portal encourages transparency, accountability and openness. The city tasked our class with recruiting two participants each, and giving them tasks to see how efficiently they could find, visualize, manipulate and filter data.

Information Architecture

Information Architecture

The MRU Strategic guide website was a pair project with the goal of  re-designing the print version of the MRU strategic guide, create a style guide and applying the same styles that were defined in the style guide to a web site that provides access to the information in the strategic plan.

Infographics

Comic book movie soundtracks infographic

The intent of this project was to create an infographic based off of comic book movie soundtracks. For this project, we completed topic research, created graphics, used appropriate typography and designed the infographic in a clear and organized manner.

CT scans for minor head trauma

This infographic was designed in collaboration with Choosing Wisely Canada to help patients and doctors have an in depth discussion in order to make an informed decision regarding obtaining a CT scan or not for the patient.

Knowledge transfer for Emergency Healthcare in Alberta

This infographic demonstrates knowledge transfer within emergency healthcare in Alberta. This project involved doing research into how information gets from a doctor to the patient.  The infographic  outlines several common information sources that may be utilized in the process.

 "Emjois" infographic from /dekode/ magazine

This infographic shows stats about emojis and was created for a third year magazine project called /dekode/.

A village of 100

I did a couple of variations of an infographic depicting the need for bible translation. This graphic shows that 28 out of 100 people dont have the word of God in their nativre language.

A seccond graphic using the same analogy of a village of 100, but this graphic shows where each of the language groups is from.

Paul Rand designer profile booklet

The purpose of this assignment was to create a document on an Information Designer/Typographer, to show a first-year student what they could learn from the designer. I compiled research on Paul Rand and used InDesign to create this booklet. What Paul Rand taught me is to not design for design’s sake, but rather to come up with individualized solutions for each project.

These three invitations are part of series of invitations to Typecon 2016 presented by The Society of Typographic Aficionados. The purpose of this assignment was to use the speaker’s topic to guide how the design should look.

The purpose of these posters is to demonstrate a foundational design principle: simplicity, ireegurlarity, asymetry, varriation and flat.

Simplicity poster

This poster represents the foundational design principle of simplicity. Simplicity was achieved through minimal design, bold typography, contrast and relevant language.

Irregularity poster

I took a comical approach to represent the foundational design principle of irregularity by placing a bucket of chicken on the table of a presidential board meeting.

Hockey Card database

Hockey Card database

Over the years, I have collected a significant number of hockey cards. I tasked myself with budding a database to store all of them. This was a massive undertaking as it meant that I had to learn how to write a database – (hand-coded – no WYSIWYG editor for this guy) – using PHP and MYSQL as I went. The first step I had to do was get all the cards into the database, so I developed a front-end form so I could enter the player's details without having to enter pure SQL, saving myself hours – if not days of entering.

Once all the cards were entered, I output all the records onto the page.
